Dunfermline boss John Potter has taken the positives from his side’s efforts at the weekend, despite seeing their promotion bid take another dent with a draw at home to Airdrieonians.
The Pars extended their winless run in the league to five when they were held by the Diamonds on Saturday, and face a tricky trip to Cappielow this coming weekend as they seek a victory to get their season back on track.
That draw with Airdrie leaves Potter’s men four points off the play-off places, but the Pars manager was glad to see his team show a bit of character to fight back from 2-1 down to earn what could turn out to be a priceless point.
“I don’t think that we have had that recently when we have gone behind,” he said.
“We have looked defeated at times and a bit soft, but there was a reaction when they went 2-1 down.
“I did think that we were going to score and even when it went to 2-2 we were pushing to get that winner as well.
“That is one pleasing thing from the game, we did show desire to get back into the game.
“But I thought we started the first half pretty poor.
“We just couldn’t cope with the front two and long balls up the pitch.
“We weren’t winning our headers, we weren’t winning second balls and we got too deep.
“We seemed to get a bit nervous and not doing the right things.
“That is when you have to stand up and get counted.
“We didn’t do that but we managed to get in at half-time a bit lucky that it was a draw because they had chances.”
New signing Jim Paterson could be struggling for Saturday’s evening kick-off at Morton after suffering a groin injury early on in the weekend’s game, while Potter was happy enough with his other two signings Kyle McAusland and Andy Barrowman.
“I am pleased with the two of them but there will be loads more to come from the three of them,” he stressed.
