David Goodwillie is determined to bring success to Pittodrie after being rewarded for making the most of a second chance in Scotland by agreeing a one-year contract extension with Aberdeen.
Dons manager Derek McInnes gambled on the striker last summer when his contract at Blackburn Rovers was terminated after he failed to establish himself at Ewood Park.
The goals have been hard to come by for Goodwillie this season five in 25 appearances but the three-times capped Scotland inter-national has forged a promising partnership with Adam Rooney which has helped lift the Dons into contention at the top of the Premiership.
After a tepid start to life at Pittodrie, the 25-year-old has, in recent weeks, looked closer to the form which earned him a lucrative move south of the border four years ago from Dundee United.
McInnes is confident the best is yet to come.
Goodwillie, whose new contract will keep him at Pittodrie until the summer of 2016, follows Rooney, Niall McGinn, Jonny Hayes, Ash Taylor and Andrew Considine in signing extensions.
The Dons have a League Cup semi-final against United to look forward to later this month and Goodwillie has his sights on playing his part in another memorable Aberdeen campaign.
He said: “I’ve really enjoyed my experience so far at Aberdeen and have particularly enjoyed working closely with the manager and Tony Docherty.
“There are a great bunch of players here, alongside brilliant staff, who are all working towards delivering success for the fantastic supporters.
“It’s a huge club, moving in the right direction under the vision of the manager, and I wanted to remain part of that as I feel something special can happen with this team.”
With his contract due to expire at the end of the season, Goodwillie had been free to talk to other clubs but manager McInnes was pleased the player opted to remain with the Dons for another year.
