Montrose manager George Shields has urged his players to sort out their home form ahead of back-to-back games at Links Park.
The Gable Endies have incredibly lost seven times already this season in front of their own fans, and they will clearly have to change that if they are to break into the promotion play-off race.
Annan are the visitors to Angus in seven days’ time, but first up this afternoon are third-placed Albion Rovers who will be intent on staying in the title hunt.
“Obviously we did well to come back last week and get a 3-3 draw in the last minute against Berwick, but I felt we deserved at least a point out of it,” Shields commented.
“The thing that gets me is that we’re playing well away from home but not so well at home, and I can’t put my finger on it.
“We just seem to play with a bit more fear at home, but with the games we’ve got coming up we need to improve our home record.
“We want to pick up some points to get ourselves back in contention.”
After the capture of Marvin Andrews earlier in the window, Shields has strengthened his squad still further by signing ex-Arbroath midfielder David Banjo.
The 24-year-old rejected a contract extension at Gayfield last summer in search of full-time football, choosing to travel down south to play with Conference side Farnborough.
However, Shields has acted quickly to snap up the former Lichtie after he decided to return north of the border.
Banjo will feature today if clearance from the FA comes in time, and Shields reckons he’ll be a good addition.
“He was full-time with Farnborough but his girlfriend lives in Perth so he wanted to move back, so I decided to make a move,” he said.
“I’m sure he’ll prove to be a great signing for us.”
Shields confirmed he is also in talks to bring a striker and a centre midfielder to Links Park, although those deals are unlikely to be done by this afternoon.
