Brechin boss Ray McKinnon has urged his players to retain their winning mentality when they face Peterhead this afternoon at the Glebe.
The Angus side’s incredible unbeaten run continued last week when they made it 13 games without defeat at the home of league leaders Stranraer, thanks to two goals by Craig Wighton in what was his last game on loan from Dundee.
Importantly, City have won their last four games on the bounce and McKinnon is now looking for his players to extend that run to five victories in a row against a dangerous Peterhead side.
Brechin know that if they can beat the Blue Toon, and Forfar and Morton slip up, then they will move up to second top in the League One table.
However, the Peterhead game could be in doubt as despite yesterday’s thaw, there were still patches of ice remaining on the Brechin pitch.
McKinnon said: “I was delighted with the win last week. It was another important result and kept the momentum going.
“I have spoken to the players about consistency of performance team-wise and as individuals.
“They really seem to have taken that on board and there is a real determination to keep our run going.
“We have also had a fairly settled side in the last few weeks which has been a bonus.
“I don’t want to talk about losing late goals to only draw games earlier in our run and I would rather concentrate on the fact we are now winning games.
“That mentality makes such a difference and it is important we keep that mind-set especially against a dangerous Peterhead side.
“The games between us so far this season have been close and I am sure they will provide a stern test again.”
As McKinnon touched upon, consistency of selection has also been a key part of his side’s successful run with long-term injury victim Callum Tapping the only player missing out in recent weeks.
However, the manager revealed that the former Hearts player is recovering well from his knee op.
He said: “Once again, we have a full squad with the exception of Tappy.
“However, he could be back within the next six to eight weeks. He is progressing well and is ahead of schedule in his recovery which is great news.”
