Alan Trouten is convinced Brechin can secure a top-four finish this season to make up for the disappointment of last term.
City are looking good for a shot at the promotion play-offs after stretching their unbeaten run to 14 games at New Broomfield.
Trouten opened the scoring against Airdrieonians before the home side salvaged a share of the spoils thanks to a wonder strike from Jamie Bain.
The 29-year-old midfielder revealed failure in the last campaign, when Brechin finished eighth, is providing extra motivation.
“I think everybody is very determined and knew last season wasn’t good enough,” Trouten said.
“A lot of people maybe questioned us but I think this season we have proved that we are a good side. Now we just have to keep it going,” he added.
“Our aim is to get into the play-offs after a disappointing season. It was very poor considering the squad of players we had.
“We’re working our backsides off every week. We’re well organised as a team and have got good quality going forward.”
Trouten, the club’s top scorer with 11 goals this season, was frustrated that City couldn’t hang on for the win.
But he believes this may prove an important result down the stretch, and was happy to make amends after the 4-0 humbling from the Diamonds in October.
He added: “This could turn out to be a big point for us at the end of the season.
“We’re motivated before we go into every game but it was a sore one the last time we played here.
“I think we under-performed, but it was a one-off and we came here looking to keep our good run going.”
Trouten broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when he slotted home after good work by Robert Thomson.
Bain earned the hosts a point when he smashed a Nathan Blockley lay-off into the top corner.
The City gaffer Ray McKinnon said: “We showed a lot of character late in the game after they scored, and I think a draw was the fair result.”
Airdrie boss Gary Bollan said: “We’re not overly pleased with a point.”
