Dundee United signing Paul Dixon says he is “absolutely delighted” to have come back to the club and city he loves.
The former Scotland internationalist last night agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal to return to Tannadice, and says he can’t wait to pull on the tangerine once again.
He is hoping his return to Tannadice has a silver lining after leaving Huddersfield.
The left-back’s thoughts quickly turned to possible cup glory after agreeing to sign for the Tangerines for a second time.
In his first spell at United, Dixon suffered heartbreak when injury ruled him out of the 2010 Scottish Cup final win over Ross County.
With Jackie McNamara’s men in the League Cup final against Celtic on March 15 and still going strong in the Scottish – they face Stranraer in the fifth round on Sunday – he is dreaming of Hampden.
Dixon said: “Obviously the League Cup final in a few weeks’ time is a massive thing and there is also the Scottish Cup this weekend as well.
“I missed a cup final when I was at United because I was injured so it would be great to get another chance of helping the club pick up some silverware.
“I played in every game in 2010 but broke my foot a couple of weeks before the match against Ross County.
“So having a final on the horizon is great, although I will have to work hard to get into the team.
“My first aim is just to work hard in training and prove to the manager I deserve to be selected.
“It won’t be easy because the team have been doing really well in the league and in the cups.
“But I’m absolutely delighted to come back and just can’t wait to get back playing at Tannadice again.
“People say you should never go back to your old club in football but I don’t think that applies to me.
“I think my situation is slightly different. I’m a United fan and I’m desperate to come back home with my family.
“I love the club and have always got on really well with the fans.”
On a hectic day dominated by Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Stevens’ move to Celtic, United striker Jordan Moore, who recently saw off skin cancer, joined League Two side Queen’s Park on loan to get game time between now and the end of the season.
The 20-year-old was given the all-clear after extensive treatment just before Christmas and the move to the Spiders is designed to help him return to full match fitness.
Hampden head coach Gus McPherson is delighted to get the striker on board.
He said: “Jordan had the opportunity to go to a club in League One but opted to come to Queen’s Park which shoes the high regard that this club has for developing player. He is in my squad for the game with Montrose this weekend.”
