Villagers are in mourning for a man who died after being struck by a car near his home in Oakley.
Derek Mackie, 63, who was named locally, had just left his local pub in Comrie when the incident happened shortly after 9pm on Tuesday.
Pub manager Catherine Campbell was one of the first on the scene after she heard a thump outside the premises.
Mr Mackie was rushed to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert but passed away later.
The accident happened outside the White Gates pub just a short walk from where he lived with wife Kate on Blairwood Terrace.
Catherine, who knew Mr Mackie for many years, said: “Lots of people knew him in all the villages round here.
“He was great; he got on with everyone and had a real sense of humour. Everyone is very upset.”
Visibly shaken, she recounted the horrifying moment when the collision occurred.
She said: “He had been in for a couple of drinks and left. I was in the bar area and I heard a thump.”
She rushed outside, saw Mr Mackie and shouted to another witness to call for an ambulance.
Mr Mackie, who worked for Havelock Europa in Kirkcaldy, raised money for many years for Oakley United Junior Football Club.
Club secretary Dougie Hynd said: “Derek was a great guy and a great fundraiser for the club, helping to keep it going.
“As well as by his family, he will be sadly missed by the club and by people in the village as he was very well known in the area.
“I couldn’t believe it when I heard what had happened.”
The road was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident and to allow accident investigations to be conducted.
Police Sergeant Brian Morgan said: “We are looking to trace any witnesses who might have seen the Ford Ka car in the Comrie area around 9pm last night or been in the area at the time and have any information that would assist.”
Mr Mackie’s family were not available for comment.
