Dundee well capable of top-six finish, says Alex Harris

Dundee’s Alex Harris believes the Dark Blues have the bottle to keep hold of their top-six spot between now and the split.

The Dens Park side broke into the top half of the Premiership thanks to their dramatic 1-0 win over Partick Thistle on Saturday, and boss Paul Hartley has challenged his players to stay there.

And after helping his new team extend their unbeaten run in the league to seven games at the weekend, Harris sees no reason why his new team can’t achieve that goal.

“It’s massive for a club like Dundee to be in the top six, and it would be a great end to the season if we managed to stay there,” he commented.

“After getting the result against Partick, we need to build on it and try to stay there until the end of the season.

“Obviously we’ve got Motherwell and Ross County in the next two weeks, and I think we should have beaten Ross County in my first game.

“But they are teams below us in the league and we should go there expecting to win.

“Since I’ve come in we’ve still not lost, so I’m really enjoying it.

“All the boys love the winning feeling and each win brings more confidence.

“The manager has been great and all the boys have been really welcoming so far.”

This time last year Harris was part of a Hibs team in freefall, with the Easter Road side eventually dropping out of the top flight.

That experience is well behind him now, although he admits he knows Motherwell and Ross County Dundee’s next two opponents in the league will be battling for everything when the Dark Blues play them in the next fortnight.

“We’ve picked up good results and we’ve got more confidence, but I’m sure they’ll be fighting for their lives,” he conceded.

“We’re in the top six now and we feel that we should be beating them, so we’ll be positive when we play them.

“It’s not a nice feeling losing most weeks and I think when I was at Hibs we only won one game in 18 or something last season, so it was very disappointing.

“Now I’m at Dundee, it’s been really positive, we’ve been winning and we’re looking forward to next week.”
