Two children have cheated death after plunging down rock faces on the Fife coastline.
A boy fell into a disused quarry near Inverkeithing on Saturday night and had to be hauled out by rescuers.
Then at midday on Sunday, a girl suffered head injuries when she slipped on the notorious chain walk near Elie.
It is the second weekend in a row that the emergency services have dealt with a fall.
Last week a 16-year-old boy sustained serious head injuries when he fell 25ft in Goat Quarry near Aberdour.
This weekend’s drama began at 8pm on Saturday.
The boy, who has not been named by Fife Constabulary, fell off the edge of Prestonhill Quarry near the Fife coastal path.
Onlookers raised the alarm and the emergency services were called out to help the stricken 14-year-old.
Ambulance personnel and firefighters lowered themselves into the quarry before treating the youngster.Just feet from perilHe had fallen onto earth on a steep slope at the foot of the cliff a few feet either way and he could have landed on some huge rocks.
He was placed on a stretcher and after almost an hour was hauled to safety and taken to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline.
The boy, who is believed to come from Dalgety Bay, was detained overnight.
It is understood that he sustained severe bruising but somehow escaped more serious injury.
He was released from hospital on Sunday.
The police said that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.
A spokesman said, “It appears to have been an accident.”
At the height of the incident four crews from Lochgelly fire station were in attendance.
Police officers sealed off the area while they carried out an investigation.Fell from chain walkThen, on Sunday, an 11-year-old girl from Carluke was airlifted to hospital in Edinburgh after falling from the chain walk.
The youngster, who has not been named, was on holiday with her family and was tackling the walk with her father when she slipped.
She struck her head and a Royal Navy helicopter from Prestwick was called to the scene, given the difficulties in reaching her.
She was flown to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, where she received treatment to a head injury.
Her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
A police spokesman said that her fall was also an accident.
A lifeboat had to be used to evacuate the rescue team from the scene, as the tide was coming in.
The chain walk is one of the steepest parts of the Fife coastal path and walkers have to use heavy chains set in to the cliff-face to climb up it.Goat Quarry fallThe Goat Quarry incident happened a week past Friday.
The 16-year-old was camping near the disused quarry with friends and was trying to climb the 70ft cliff-face when he fell.
He sustained serious head injuries and a full-scale rescue operation swung into action.
The boy was taken to the Queen Margaret, but later transferred to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
He remained on the hospital’s critical list for more than a week, but was said to be improving on Friday.
