Dexters hosts an event of a different kind this weekend when it opens its doors to the work of local photographer and friend of bands Daisy Dundee during its 10th anniversary celebrations.

Previewing with a candlelit launch night set to the sounds of some of Dundee’s brightest musical talent on Sunday, the exhibition will run for a week.

It includes images of Dundee’s best known exports The View, as well as a host of other local talent including The Law, The Mirror Trap and The Twist, alongside major acts such as Peter Doherty, Goldfrapp and Nick Cave.

Many of the musicians featured in the exhibition will make an appearance during the launch event, with some special surprises planned on the night. Acts confirmed so far include acoustic sets by The Mirror Trap, Mass Consensus, Billy Mitchell solo, Daniel Quinn solo and Dave Webster solo.

The theme of the exhibition is The Young, The Beautiful and The Dead the latter is almost true because it refers not just to one of her favourite bands The Dead Weather, but to “Jim Morrison” of The Doors’ tribute act The Doors Alive, one of Daisy’s favourite recent subjects (she is a Doors fanatic).

Daisy explained, “The original idea behind the exhibition was to celebrate a snapshot in time of the Dundee music scene, but I couldn’t resist including some of my favourite major performers like Nick Cave, too.

As well as photography, Daisy reviews live gigs and writes features on the Dundee music scene, generating national media coverage for Dundee bands, venues and charity events.

Her work for The Doghouse closure campaign resulted in national media coverage and her videos on YouTube have generated thousands of hits around the world for her favourite bands.

Daisy is consultant to the city council’s Soundbase mentoring scheme in Dundee, offering fledgling local bands with advice and PR support.

She was also co-organiser and promoter for this year’s charity music festival Neurofest in Dundee.

You can see more of Daisy’s work on YouTube and MySpace. The Young, The Beautiful and The Dead: An exhibition of live music photography by Daisy Dundee will open on Sunday, October 17, at 7pm. Entry is £4 on the door.
