Comedian Romesh Ranganathan has teamed up with the Beano comic to find Britain’s funniest family.
The long-running comic magazine said it wanted to lift the spirits of people locked inside during the coronavirus pandemic.
It is asking families to submit videos of a maximum of 15 seconds, with four categories including funniest family joke, prank, face, and song and dance.
A team of Beano joke writers, led by head judge Ranganathan, will select a shortlist, before asking the public to vote online for the winner.
Ranganathan said: “I know families can be hilarious, so being asked to be head judge to help Beano find Britain’s funniest family is a dream job.
“At the moment, I think we could all do with a smile and I can’t wait to watch all the dances, faces, jokes and pranks that UK families come up with.”
The competition is being held alongside children’s mental health charity Young Minds and is open until May 24.
The winning family will be brought to life in a one-off Beano strip as well as receiving a trophy, a year’s subscription for the magazine and a Nintendo Switch.
