Heading to the Highlands will seem like a walk in the park for St Johnstone striker Marcus Haber after travelling all the way to the Ukraine for his first taste of international football.
Haber made his debut for Canada in ice-cold Kiev last week as his country recorded an excellent 2-2 draw in a friendly.
So a journey up the A9 to play for Saints against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday in the SPL will hold no fears for him.
He said, “It was my first cap and I came off the bench for the last 20 minutes.
“I had been hoping to be involved, and playing for the senior Canadian side had been an ambition of mine since I first got representative honours as a youngster.
“When they called out my number, I was really happy to get out on the park.”
He added, “It was an occasion I will remember for a long, long time.
“We were up 2-0 at half-time but got pegged back later on.
“Overall, though, it was a good result away from home for Canada.”
Haber, who was among a largely Europe-based Canadian squad, is hoping to retain his place for a match in Greece in February.
To do that, he will have to be doing well for St Johnstone.
Having is off the mark for his club in both league and cup now against Hibs and Queen of the South respectively and is ready to kick on.
“Obviously I wanted to get that first league goal quickly,” he said.
“I want to contribute to the team and score goals for St Johnstone.
“Now we want to build on the win over Hibs that was a vital victory for us.
“Now we head up to Inverness and, apart from Rangers and Celtic, it looks a tight race in the SPL.”
He added, “I don’t think we are far away from any of the others but we have to be consistent in terms of performance and results.
“Personally, I don’t know a whole lot about Inverness but everything is new to me just now. I have never been there but it can’t be as cold as Kiev was!”
