Dundee manager Barry Smith has admitted that it is only a matter of time before another club puts in a bid for star striker Leigh Griffiths.

Blackpool are the latest side to be linked with making a move for the Scotland Under-21 player, who scored one goal and set up the other for the Dark Blues as they fought back to draw with Dunfermline on Saturday.

However, while singling out Griffiths for praise, Smith also believes the entire squad are deserving of a big pat on the back for their efforts since Dundee entered administration.

“Leigh is playing well just now,” he said.

“I have no idea if there is any interest in him at the moment as all that would go through the administrator.

“But as I have said to him, if he keeps playing the way he does, there will be a move.

“I would love to keep him though. He has done really well in the last two weeks.

“His workrate has been great but he needs to carry on doing it.

“However, he is not the only one doing well I think the whole team has responded in the right manner.

“They have been excellent in the circumstances and the work they have put in has been different class.

“Obviously, when they come off the pitch, there is still a lot to think about.

“But there is a release out on the park or on the training pitch.Focused”As long as they keep focused on the games, and doing what they are doing, that is good enough for me.

“We just need a victory and I believe we can kick on from there.”

Smith was pleased that his threadbare squad did not suffer any new injuries at the weekend and he was also delighted with the contribution of the supporters who came into Dens in their thousands to give the team their backing.

“The fans were brilliant,” he added.

“Even when we were 2-0 down, they supported the boys, which is important.

“Having played here, it is a massive thing if the fans are not behind the team players are affected by that.

“But on Saturday, they stuck behind them and gave them the support they needed.

“The fact they turned out in numbers was brilliant as well.”
