Kathleen Smith, who was educated at Perth Academy, served during the war as an officer in RAF intelligence at Whitehall in London. She married Jack Smith in 1948, following which the couple settled in Dundee. Appointed Dundee University rector assessor in 1975, she served rectors Clement Freud and Lord Mackie. She was also honorary president of Dundee Liberal Association, and stood as a parliamentary candidate for West Perthshire in 1974. Mrs Smith was an elder at Meadowside St Paul’s Church and involved in many local charities. She is survived by children Walter, Alison and Alistair, seven grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
