Work experience scheme protesters target McDonald’s in Dundee
ByNews reporter
Police were called to McDonald’s in Dundee city centre on Wednesday afternoon to deal with a protest against the UK Government’s work experience scheme.
Left-wing groups targeted branches of the fast food chain throughout the country after the company joined the scheme which offers jobseekers up to eight weeks’ unpaid work without losing benefits.
At the Reform Street branch, protesters scrawled slogans and other symbols on walls and on the pavement outside.
The police were called and the protesters were asked to clean up the messages, which they agreed to do. The city council also sent along workers to help remove graffiti.
A police spokesman said that no damage was caused, no offences were committed and the protesters left without incident.
