Trainee funeral director sacked after theft allegations

An Angus undertaker has been sacked after allegations that mourners’ donations were stolen.

Trainee funeral director Douglas Findlay was dismissed by Selwood Funeral Directors following a series of alleged thefts running to a three-figure sum.

Owner of the business Lindsay Martin confirmed the 56-year-old employee had been ”sacked with immediate effect”.

Mr Martin added that his family-run firm could not comment further until the matter is resolved in court.

Staff at the business, which has premises in Monifieth and Carnoustie, contacted the police to report the alleged incident.

Tayside Police confirmed a man had been charged.
