The incident, which resulted in a substantial police presence for a time on Tuesday afternoon, took place near Costcutter in Rossland Place. A Police Scotland spokesman said officers were called to deal with a potentially serious incident which was quickly resolved. A man was taken to hospital with a minor arm injury. Contrary to rumours in the town, police said officers were not armed. Investigations were continuing, the spokesman said, and charges were possible. One eye witness told The Courier: “There were about six or seven police vans near the War Memorial. The place was cordoned off.”
