A Dysart community leader says she is baffled why a pair of promotional banners were stolen just hours after being put up.
Police are now investigating after two signs promoting the burgh and its businesses were removed at the weekend.
Placed in prominent locations in the town on Saturday, the hoardings had vanished by Sunday, despite having been put up in compliance with planning regulations.
Having been used as a filming location for the hit television series Outlander last year, Dysart is expecting an influx of tourists over the next few months.
Mystified as to why the signs may have been taken, Ms Cameron said they were aimed at boosting the profile of the community.
“We are just trying to raise the profile of Dysart and we all thought that this was a good idea.
“The signs were not permanent and we put up two signs, one by the park and the other at the mini-roundabout at Boreland.
“If anybody had any objections then it was clear who had put them up and they could have contacted us about it.”
The initiative was funded by donations from local shopkeepers, each contributing £20 towards the production of the banners.
“They have given money in good faith and are understandably not going to be happy about the signs being stolen,” added Ms Cameron.
