Brechin City boss Ray McKinnon hopes to find out in the next 24 to 48 hours if Derek Riordan will commit his immediate future to the Glebe Park club.
The 31-year-old former Scotland striker’s representative has been in talks about potentially extending his stay with the Angus club after appearing as a trialist in the last few games.
And McKinnon revealed yesterday that he is still awaiting an answer from Riordan’s agent, although he hopes to have the situation sorted out one way or another ahead of Saturday’s local derby at home to Forfar.
Riordan, who rose to fame during spells with Celtic and Hibernian, was an unused substitute in City’s 2-1 win over Stirling Albion in midweek.
He is looking to kick-start his playing career after a period in China with Shaanxi Chan-Ba and disappointing stints with St Johnstone, Bristol Rovers and latterly Alloa after returning home to the UK in 2011.
