Alexander Tait Fraser, a former chief subeditor with The Courier, has died aged 79.
Mr Fraser, who was known to his former colleagues as Sandy, was educated at Morgan Academy before doing national service, stationed in Germany and at Edinburgh Castle.
He began his civilian working career as an office clerk in the jute trade, at South Mills in Brown Street, before joining DC Thomson & Co Ltd as a reader in Bank Street in 1958.
He later moved over to The Courier staff as a subeditor and rose to become chief sub, working for many years in Bank Street and Kingsway East.
Sandy retired through ill health in April 1999, shortly before his 64th birthday.
A keen golfer, he was a member of the Press Club in Monifieth and at Downfield Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters Fiona, Sandra and Rowan, and eight grandchildren.
