Work has restarted on drinks giant Diageo’s new multi-million-pound bottling plant in Leven, with a new contractor in place to carry out the construction.
The £86 million project at Banbeath was halted in November when the previous contractor ROK went into administration, making around 150 tradesmen redundant.
However, a new construction management company ISG was appointed by Diageo last month to take on the work at Leven and at the firm’s new cooperage at Cambus, near Alloa.
While ROK’s demise was unwelcome news for Diageo, the drinks company said yesterday that it still hopes to have the new bottling hall in operation sometime this summer.
A spokeswoman for the firm said, “We are pleased that now that the severe weather has passed work is progressing well and construction is still due for completion in summer 2011.”
