A local hero will be there but sadly Doctor Who is too tied up in his Tardis to attend the screening of a famous film in Perthshire.
Actors Denis Lawson and Jennifer Black, who played husband and wife Gordon and Stella Urquhart in the 1983 film Local Hero, will be present at a special screening at Strathearn Artspace in Crieff on Friday August 29, with tickets selling fast.
David Campbell, project leader of Strathearn Artspace, said the appeal of watching the film on the big screen was the main allure to residents.
“It is great that Denis and Jennifer are coming along,” he said.
“We tried to get Peter Capaldi but he’s been too busy with Doctor Who.
“I don’t think Denis will have seen Jennifer for some time. She played Chief Superintendent Gill Templar in the Rebus TV series.
“If you look back at that Eighties perm you can recognise her. She must have been quite young when she acted in Local Hero, in her late twenties, early thirties.”
Mr Campbell added: “Everywhere I go people have been saying they are looking forward to seeing the film. We’ve been treating it as a homecoming.”
He added that Strathearn Artspace has been “very active” lately.
“We are making inroads. We recently had Ivan Drever, former singer with Wolfstone, and Canadian Skip Gordon.”
Local Hero is a comedy-drama about American oil company representative “Mac” MacIntyre, played by Peter Riegert, who is sent to the fictional village of Ferness to buy it, making way for a refinery.
Mac ends up spending several weeks in Ferness and adapts to the slower-paced life a complete contrast to hectic Houston.
He becomes friends with many villagers, including the hotel owner and accountant Gordon and wife Stella.
