Thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to dozens of cars in a mindless spree of vandalism in Dundee.

Around 30 parked cars were scratched in the attack in several streets in the city’s Law area shortly after 9.30pm on Friday night.

A teenager was seen scratching a car parked in Inverary Terrace, and police investigations showed more had been damaged in nearby Albany Terrace and Rankine Street.

Officers were out this morning contacting affected owners, some of whom were unaware of the damage to their vehicles.

One couple had two cars, a Mazda MX5 and a Honda Jazz, damaged, which will cost more than £1,500 to repair.

Although their insurance will cover the cost of the damage, they will have to pay two excesses, the man said.

A police spokesman said the vandal seen in Inverary Terrace was a male in his late teens, slim, 5ft 6in, and wearing a bright blue hooded top and grey bottoms.

Police attended, but the teenager wasn’t traced.

The spokesman added: “Officers want to trace this person. The damage indicates that something sharp was used to scrape the side of the vehicle.

“It is evident that numerous parked vehicles in the Inverary Terrace, Albany Terrace and Rankine Street areas of the city have had their paintwork damaged in a similar manner and officers seek assistance from anyone who might assist in the identification of the person responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to phone 101 or speak to any officer.
