ByThe Courier Reporter
Scotland Under-17s suffered a disappointing start to their UEFA European Championship Finals campaign against Portugal.
Goals from Renato Sanches and Luis Mata saw the Scots go down 2-0 in their opening match in Malta.
Sanches opened the scoring after 18 minutes when his shot from the edge of the penalty area bounced up past Scotland goalkeeper Robby McCrorie to find the net.
The Scots became more of an attacking threat during the second half but the Portuguese doubled their lead with Mata’s goal 12 minutes from the final whistle.
A poor clearance from McCrorie found the Porto youngster who was able to find the empty net from long range.
Scotland will face Germany next on Monday.
