The failure started at 9.20am, with many homes in the KY1 and KY2 postcodes without power for over an hour. Other properties only experienced a momentary outage, with electricity quickly diverted from other sources. The Courier contacted Scottish Power, who said that the power cut had been caused by a problem with the overhead cable network. A spokesperson apologised for any inconvenience and said that the problem had been resolved.
