Industry Body Oil & Gas UK said the health and safety performance of the offshore sector had been “mixed” last year.
In its annual safety report, the group said aviation safety dominated the agenda in 2013 after the death of four workers in a helicopter crash off Sumburgh in August.
Investigations by the Helicopter Safety Steering Group, the Parliamentary Transport Select Committee and the Civil Aviation Authority were sparked by the tragedy.
The report noted a 49% reduction in the number of reportable hydrocarbon releases over three years to the end of March 2013, narrowly below the 50% target.
However the remainder of 2013 saw an overall rise in the total number of releases and there was a slight rise in reportable injuries and dangerous occurrences.
