An Angus charity which has helped thousands of homeless people since 2002 is closing after a white knight failed to ride to its rescue.
Starter Packs Angus, which is based in Arbroath, had been clinging to fading hope that money could be found to keep the charity going.
Unfortunately it was not to be and the final starter pack has now been sent out from its premises at the former Ladyloan School which will be taken over at the end of the month.
Gresham Worgan-Blake, business manager of Starter Packs Angus, said: “It’s a real shame and very unfortunate.
“The volunteers and board members have worked tremendously hard to keep the project going but the core funding required was not forthcoming.”
The charity helped provide the basics for families or individuals setting up in a new tenancy, including utensils, bedding and other items.
Starter Packs Angus was established by Scottish Churches Housing Action, Angus Council and churches as a direct response to the serious problems of homelessness in the county.
Among the thousands of people Starter Packs Angus has helped are drug and alcohol addicts, domestic abuse victims and ex-service personnel who have struggled to find their feet after returning to civilian life.
The charity’s rent was paid up until the end of July but the shop will remain open to sell off remaining stock and fittings before the building changes hands.
Despite some support in kind, the charity does not receive funding from either the local authority or the NHS.
