Around 1,400 staff at one of Perth’s top employers have been told they must work harder and cut costs as major insurer Aviva continues efforts to turn around its debt-burdened business.
The company said workers at the group’s Pitheavlis base needs to up productivity and be more efficient as it develops a “digital first” strategy and strives to improve performance in every office around the world.
But chief executive Mark Wilson indicated major restructuring efforts and mass job cuts had come to an end, as he revealed encouraging interim results for the six months to the end of June including a hike in profits.
“We haveshifted our expense focus away from an absolute reduction to one of improving our operating expense ratio,” Mr Wilson said.
“Each cell in every business must improve its operating expense ratio year after year.”
