Festival fever hits Dundee as gamers flock to Dare Protoplay
ByGrant Smith
Scotland’s biggest video games festival has opened in Dundee.
Around 13,000 fans are expected to attend Dare Protoplay and try out dozens of games created by independent studios and international students taking part in an Abertay University competition.
The four-day event will provide an economic boost for many city businesses and help cement Dundee’s reputation as a centre of excellence in computer games teaching and commercial development.
Professor Louis Natanson, head of the school of arts, media and computer games at Abertay, said: “Dare ProtoPlay is always a very exciting event for the students who’ve worked so hard to create a brand new game for the Dare to be Digital competition, and the thousands of members of the public who get to play these games.”
Dare Protoplay has taken over Caird Hall and is also based in a large tent set up in City Square.
Among the guests will be Richard Lemarchand, lead game designer on the three hit Uncharted adventure games.
