St Johnstone striker Stevie May has joined English Championship side Sheffield Wednesday for a transfer fee believed to be around £800,000.
The Scotland Under-21 star travelled down to England on Friday to hold talks with the Owls as well as other long-term suitors Rotherham United.
After some consideration, May opted to swap McDiarmid for Hillsborough and has now signed a four-year deal.
He stated on his Twitter account: “Delighted to say I’ve have signed a 4 year deal with Sheffield Wednesday. Can’t wait to get started”.
His departure is a huge blow for Saints, losing a talismanic front man who netted 27 times for the club last season.
He also scored in what proved to be his last game for St Johnstone on Thursday night in Slovakia although his goal was not enough to take Tommy Wright’s side through in their Europa League tie with Spartak Trnava.
The Perth boss has already moved to fill the gap left by May’s departure with striker Adam Morgan being drafted in on loan from Yeovil Town.
The former Liverpool front man will be with the Saints squad for their Premiership curtain raiser up in Dingwall against Ross County tomorrow.
