Brian Cox urges voters to ‘seize this moment’ and vote Yes

Brian Cox was back in his home city to urge voters to back an independent Scotland.

Hollywood star Brian Cox has urged Scots to ditch party politics and seize a historic moment for the nation by voting Yes in next month’s referendum.

Mr Cox, one of the leading cultural voices in favour of Scottish independence, was trying to win support from Labour rivals to back a break-up of the United Kingdom.

Campaigning in his native city of Dundee on Monday, he called on traditional Labour voters to look beyond party politics, insisting that a vote for independence represents a way to put Scotland’s future in its own hands.

He said: “It is increasingly clear that Westminster isn’t working for the people of Scotland.

“One figure that lays bare the failing of the Westminster system is the fact that 70% of people own just 25% of the wealth.”

Mr Cox claimed that a Yes vote would ensure Scotland’s wealth, resources and talent are put to work for the benefit of the people who live here.

He added: “We can make Scotland’s wealth work better for the people who live here and that is too good an opportunity to miss, especially for those thousands of Scots who are traditional Labour voters.

“That is why I would urge all those who remain loyal to Labour in Scotland to look beyond politics as usual and to seize this historic moment for our nation.”
