Residents in Dundee’s west end are waging war on anti-social tenants in HMOs (houses of multiple occupancy) who, they claim, are making their lives a misery.
Late-night parties, banging on doors and windows at 5am, shouting and swearing and even throwing bottles and cans out of top-floor windows are all examples of anti-social behaviour the residents have complained about.
The residents claim Dundee City Council’s HMO unit are only paying “lip service” to their complaints and the problems are being ignored.
Now one homeowner has decided enough is enough and is calling a public meeting in an effort to tackle the problem and persuade the city council’s licensing committee to revoke the licences of landlords who fail to take action against anti-social tenants.
Mark Iannarelli, who lives in a block of flats in Seafield Road, near Roseangle, says the problems have become “intolerable” and he is objecting to a licence application by the landlords of the offending flats which is due to come before the licensing committee next month.
The move comes just a month after two HMO applications were refused by the city council’s licensing committee due to problems the tenants were causing to resident Stephen Macdougall in the same street.
