A chef who raped a woman in a Dundee flat has been jailed for five years.
Joseph Hamilton sent his victim a message and invited her to his home for a coffee last December.
The woman told the High Court in Edinburgh that she had gone expecting to have “a chit chat”.
When she went to leave Hamilton grabbed her by the arm and attacked her. The woman said the 27-year-old had indecently assaulted and raped her.
The woman said she was left feeling “numb”.
She later spoke to her sister and told her she had gone to Hamilton’s home to have a cup of coffee, but he had sex with her and she had told him not to.
The court heard that Hamilton and the woman had been in contact with each other before and after the rape through social media messages.
Hamilton denied raping the woman at Balmullo Square on December 8 last year, but was found guilty of the offence.
He was acquitted of three further charges alleging sex attacks against another woman in the city in June and July last year.
Lord Glennie told Hamilton that he noted that he continued to protest his innocence over the offence and contended that what happened was consensual but he concluded: “There is no realistic alternative to a custodial sentence.”
Hamilton was also put on the sex offenders register.
