Fife Council’s environmental enforcement officers are taking to their bikes in a bid to catch litter louts.
Anyone caught dropping litter faces an £80 fine and the council is calling on people to take rubbish home or put it in the bin.
Service manager Elaine Devine said: “Bikes can be an effective tool for fighting environmental crimes, particularly when used in densely-populated areas.
“Using bikes instead of vans not only makes our officers more visible, but also more approachable.”
Bob McLellan, head of transportation and environmental services, added: “I’m sure everyone would agree with me that Fife is a beautiful region but we all have to play our part and take personal responsibility to keep it that way.
“Instead of throwing rubbish away, I urge everyone to do the right thing and dispose of waste properly. Don’t risk an £80 fine put your rubbish in the bin.”
He added: “Local communities in Fife are pulling together to tackle litter problems in their area. Already this year, there have been 49 local clean up events.”
