St Johnstone have signed former Scotland under-21 international Simon Lappin. The deal is subject to international clearance and the midfielder will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s match against Aberdeen. The 31-year-old has agreed a two-year deal after he was released by Cardiff City. Lappin, who began his career with St Mirren, joined Cardiff in January 2013 but failed to make a single appearance for the Welsh club. He played 10 times during a loan spell with League One outfit Sheffield United. The Glasgow-born man made his name with Norwich City, where he was part of back-to-back league winning squads. He made more than 100 appearances for the Canaries. Lappin had recently been on trial with Rangers. Saints boss Tommy Wright has been looking for a left-sided midfielder since Liam Craig left over a year ago. He is also hopeful of bringing in a new striker before the transfer window shuts. * For an interview with Wright see Friday’s Courier.
