A different kind of sport will take place at Barry Buddon on Sunday when more than 350 runners will take part in a half-marathon.
The inaugural Barry Buddon half-marathon will pass by the shooting areas where the Commonwealth Games events were held last month.
The race has been organised by a group of mature runners from the Dundee area with the field limited to 400 to ensure everything goes smoothly.
The course is a fast, almost flat track, on good-quality tarmac that has been professionally measured and mile-marked.
The race will start and finish at the central compound of the military training camp.
Event spokesman Alan Lawson said: “Between 350 and 400 runners are expected with almost 45% women, which is high for a half-marathon.
“Although many of the runners are local, there are a good number coming from distance, including large groups from Portobello Running Club and from Clyde Runners (South Lanarkshire).
“It’s quite a scenic course, and the heather is now in bloom some of the prizes are bottles of the famous Fraoch (heather) ale.”
If all goes well, the organisers hope to make it an annual event.
Barry Buddon covers 2,600 acres and is primarily an infantry training area, consisting of accommodation for 500 people and 21 ranges capable of supporting small arms, heavy machine gun and medium mortars.
Typically, with all camps and facilities in use, about 30,000 personnel pass through annually from all three services, cadets and some civilian organisations.
