Dundee manager Paul Hartley did his homework in order to pass his Celtic test with flying colours.
All the swotting paid off as the Dark Blues showed that, for 90 minutes at least, they were in the same class as the champions.
The hosts stunned their visitors in the first minute of the game, with James McPake powering home a header after he was found by a corner from Phil Roberts.
They went on to dominate the opening period, with Roberts ripping Hoops defender Emilio Izaguirre to pieces up the right wing.
However, former Dundee fans’ favourite Leigh Griffiths, a first-half sub, came back to haunt his old team with the equaliser on 55 minutes.
Hartley’s players still could have won the match in the latter stages, with Martin Boyle in particular passing up golden opportunities to turn one point into three.
It was still a hugely encouraging performance, though, and Hartley revealed the secret of his success.
“We have watched a lot of footage of Celtic over the last couple of weeks,” he said. “We even showed the players more of that footage before they went out today.
“We have watched Celtic’s last (set) of games for hours, looking at how we could hurt them. So we worked all week on how we wanted to play today.
“I told them to try to get in behind Celtic, turn them and try to play the match in their half.”
