An inmate who threw foil sachets in the face of a prison officer was sentenced to three months in prison when he appeared at Perth Sheriff Court.
The court heard that Robert Stewart, 33, c/o HM Prison Perth, had been “unhappy” about being asked to pick up food from the floor by prison officers.
Depute fiscal Rebecca Kynaston said: “The accused grabbed some sachets and threw them in the face of a prison officer. The man recoiled as one hit his left eye and was told to report the incident, which was captured on CCTV.”
Solicitor Jaclyn Meisel, defending, said her client had received word that an aunt had passed away and “took this out” on the prison officer.
“A different prison officer had agitated my client,” she said.
Stewart admitted that on May 5 at HM Perth Prison, Edinburgh Road, Perth, he threw a quantity of foil toiletry sachets, which struck a prison officer.
Stewart, who is currently serving a prison sentence with the earliest release date of July 17 next year, was sentenced to three months in jail from yesterday’s date.
