HMRC staff in Dundee ready to strike over redundancy fears

Staff at the HMRC contact centre in Dundee are planning to walkout over fears of dozens of staf cuts.
Staff at Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) contact centre in Dundee have voted to take strike over fears dozens of workers could be made redundant.
Hundreds of workers are expected to walk out for two hours on Monday after Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union members voted in favour of industrial action.
The union alleges that despite burgeoning demand for the centre with 300 calls waiting at some times HMRC are still seeking to make 38 members of staff redundant.
Tam Dolan, PCS branch chairman, said: “This decision is baffling.
“HMRC have trained staff doing an excellent job, receiving more calls than they can handle.
“For PCS members in Dundee, making these staff redundant while recruiting elsewhere sends a message that Dundee doesn’t feature in HMRC’s long-term plans.”
Lynn Henderson, PCS Scottish secretary, said: “In the days before the referendum we call upon HMRC to see sense and ensure these highly trained, talented staff in Dundee have jobs.”
