Montrose cinema plans inspire similar thinking in Brechin

Brechin wants to follow Montrose’s lead and bring a state-of-the-art cinema to the town.
Community council chairman Derek Harper has taken inspiration from the Montrose Playhouse Project.
He said bringing a cinema to Brechin was a “feasible and workable” idea if he can get the community’s support.
He said: “Having facilities like a cinema would mean people would stay longer in Brechin when they visit. The Montrose Playhouse Project has done a good job in transforming a derelict building.”
He continued: “Having a cinema has happened elsewhere, so why can’t I do something similar? This is feasible and workable.”
Montrose Playhouse Project is set to transform the former swimming pool in the town into a state-of-the-art independent cinema.
The project was given the go-ahead by Angus Council earlier this year.
The cinema will create 10 to 20 jobs permanent jobs, with more being created during the construction phase.
The cinema will have four screens and will cost up to £3 million.
