Montrose v Albion Rovers: Leighton McIntosh to re-sign for Gable Endies

Montrose are to re-sign striker Leighton McIntosh on a short-term contract.

The Gable Endies, who play host to Albion Rovers at Links Park, will give him a deal up to Christmas, with a chance to extend it if it suits both parties.

Manager George Shields confirmed: “I have spoken to Leighton and have offered him the option of signing for us.”

Shields, meanwhile, will be looking for the players to bounce back following their Angus derby defeat to Arbroath last weekend.

Montrose will be without the suspended Declan O’Kane, who was sent off in that game, while Danny Cavanagh is ruled out through injury.

“Those are setbacks but we have a big enough squad and should be able to cope with them,” added Shields.

Albion player-manager Darren Young may have only been in his job for a couple of months but he has done his homework on the teams that will come up against his Cliftonhill side.

Young is well versed in Montrose’s strengths despite never having faced the Links Park side before.

He said: “Montrose are sitting in fifth despite having played a game less than everyone else so they have had a decent start.

“ That is not a surprise to me as their manager has put together a strong squad there.”

“Paul Harkins, Ross McCord and Bryan Deasley are all very good footballers who will present a lot of problems when they go forward.

“Garry Wood is another player who poses problems due to his presence in the box at set-pieces so we will need to pay well to get anything.”
