An iconic Dundee pub is to reopen under new management but with a familiar look.

The Jolly Judge on Ward Road shut a number of weeks ago for “essential repairs”, leaving many regulars disappointed.

Now, Jimmy Fyffe of JF Kegs which owns the building has revealed that new management have taken on the lease.

The pub will relaunch as Deacons within the next month and pay tribute to the venue’s history with the refitting of a number of original features from Deacon Brodies.

Mr Fyffe, who also owns other bars in the city, said: “The building was leased to the previous owner who had other business interests and it didn’t work out for her.

“A couple have now signed a new lease and it is hoped the pub will be reopening within two to four weeks’ time under the name Deacons.

“The new management are going to try to do everything that was done in Deacon Brodies and they are looking at putting the features back in again.

“The building used to be a church and Deacon Brodies used some of the old features that were in the church.

“There will be food getting served, which will focus on the businesses in the surrounding area, and there is going to be live music.

“Buskers next door already has live music, but this will be different.”
