A high-end Indian restaurant will open in the old Byzantium premises next month.
Rishi’s, which already has branches in Aberdeen and Glasgow, snapped-up the vacant Hawkhill restaurant after the closure of the Mediterranean eatery in September.
The termination of Byzantium, which had been open for five years, was quickly followed by the closure of another restaurant, The Blue Marlin, at City Quay.
The director of West Port property, which acts on behalf of the owner of the Hawkhill premises, said that the arrival of Rishi’s was a vote of confidence in Dundee.
Adam Hutcheson said: “Due to the success of the Byzantium business, along with the unique location and high-quality finish of the premises, the leasehold opportunity has been snapped-up, following a frenzy of interest from across the UK, by one of Glasgow and Aberdeen’s leading Indian restaurant companies, Rishi’s.
“Already located in George Street, Aberdeen, and Bath Street, Glasgow, Rishi’s offers a delicate mix of authentic traditional and contemporary Indian cuisine style.
“Dundee’s newest restaurant venue is due to open in November,” he added.
Caf Byzantium, at Monikie Country Park, is not connected with the Hawkhill Byzantium in any way and is continuing to trade as normal.
