Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara has praised Alan Stubbs for giving help and advice to Jordan Moore as he battles back to full fitness.
The 20-year-old striker was told he was suffering from melanoma skin cancer in January but has since been given the all-clear.
Hibs boss Stubbs, a former Celtic team-mate of McNamara’s, was diagnosed with testicular cancer back in 1999 but went on to make a full recovery.
That experience though made him the ideal person to speak to Moore and to caution the youngster about pushing himself too hard on the comeback trail.
McNamara said: “Alan has been a great help to Jordan. Alan has obviously gone through similar things in his life.
“I think it’s quite difficult for a lad to know what to expect and what to go through.
“But Alan has given Jordan advice about training because sometimes you can do too much, and you have to give your body a chance to heal and do things properly.
“He’s got to make sure he’s looking after himself properly and get the right rest when he needs to.
“Jordan is very headstrong and he wants to get back in as soon as possible. But Alan has come up to see him and it’s been brilliant for him.”
McNamara is hoping that once Moore is back to full fitness, he can push for a regular place in the United first team.
The manager added: “It’s one where we don’t want to rush him too much, or put too much pressure on the lad after all he’s been through.
“We’re hoping we can get the right kind of programme for him which will make him as fit and sharp as possible.
“That will help him score goals at this level.”
