Dundee HSFP’s Matt O’Sullivan has won the inaugural BT Try of the Month award.
The 22-year-old was s on the end of a fantastic team effort in his side’s 35-17 victory over the newly-promoted Marr last month.
O’Sullivan, an outside centre who works as a barman, said: “The man at the club who does our analysis, Alan Thomson, told me he had put the try forward for the award, but I never gave it a second thought and didn’t think it was in with a chance.
“To my surprise I got the phone-call to say I had a won, and I’m absolutely delighted with the award.”
The Mayfield side showed great ambition in running the ball from their own 22, exhibiting composure and fluid handling, from a large proportion of the team, to eventually find O’Sullivan who sidled through the opposition defence to cross the whitewash.
The September award winner continued: “ I’ve really got the team to thank for the try. Most people were involved in a good build-up through the hands, and the forwards provided quick ball which created the platform for me to grab the score.
“Dundee have traditionally been a forward orientated team, yet we’re looking to play a more up-beat style of game this year and it’s starting to pay dividends when we’re on the park this try being a good example of that.”
The club currently sit third in the National 1 league table, having recorded three victories and one draw from their five games.
He said: “The club are currently in a rebuilding phase, and with our new systems on the field it’s all starting to come together.
“Last year we came into our game too late in the season, but off the back of a strong pre-season we seemed to have turned things around and are competing well. This, hopefully, will see us fighting for promotion come the business-end of the league.”
