Kristen Stewart is set to play Diana, Princess of Wales in a new film, according to reports.
US outlet Deadline has said that the Twilight star, 30, will take up the role in a drama titled Spencer.
The film will reportedly show Diana spending a weekend in Sandringham during which she realises her marriage to Charles is not working.
The film will be directed by Pablo Larrain and the script has been written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, according to Deadline.
In an interview with the outlet, Larrain said: “We all grew up, at least I did in my generation, reading and understanding what a fairy tale is.
“Usually, the prince comes and finds the princess, invites her to become his wife and eventually she becomes queen. That is the fairy tale.
“When someone decides not to be the queen, and says, I’d rather go and be myself, it’s a big, big decision, a fairy tale upside down.”
A number of actresses have played Diana in the past, including in 2013 when Naomi Watts took up the role in a biopic titled Diana.
Oliver Hirschbiegel’s film was panned by critics.
Last year Emma Corrin was cast as Diana in Netflix series The Crown.
In 2007 Genevieve O’Reilly played the royal in Channel 5 film Diana: Last Days Of A Princess.
