A message was left for customers (inset) informing them of the closure. Kirriemuir community leaders have reacted with fury to the sudden closure of the town’s only Post Office. It is understood the doors to the Reform Street branch were shut following an audit inspection of the business last week. The move comes amidst an ongoing community consultation, due to end in early November, over plans to relocate the branch to a town centre newsagent. Town councillor Ronnie Proctor said the town had been “sold short” by the unexpected closure. He has called for temporary arrangement to be put in place to ensure continuing provision. “This will hit elderly people who don’t have their own transport and can’t easily get to another post office for their pension or benefits,” he said. Post Office chiefs have apologised and said they are “working hard to restore services to the community as soon as possible.” For more on this story see Tuesday’s Courier or try our digital edition.
