A Dundee father has slammed knife culture after his 10-year-old son was allegedly stabbed in the head by another boy the same age.
The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for the wound, which was glued together by surgeons to stop the bleeding.
The boy’s attacker was arrested and charged by police and a report has been prepared for the Children’s Panel, police have confirmed.
The father, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said he wanted to highlight the horrific incident in The Courier because he believes parents should be doing more to prevent their children carrying knives.
The 35-year-old said: “We could have been looking at a murder investigation here. This place is getting worse. You hear about things like this happening in London but you don’t expect it here.”
The boy’s mother, 34, said: “It’s terrible. The doctors said it was lucky he wasn’t more seriously injured.”
Police also issued an appeal to parents and carers of children to make sure they know what their children are doing, especially during weekends and school holidays.
A spokesman said: “Whilst keeping people safe is a priority for officers, it is also important that adults in our communities recognise the role that they have to play in protecting our young people.
“Parents and carers are encouraged to take responsibility for their children, taking time to find out where their children are, who they are with and what they are doing.”
