Perthshire road blocked by rock fall expected to reopen soon

A Perthshire road is still closed, almost two months after it was blocked by a rock fall but the end is in sight.

The A984 has been closed between Caputh and Dunkeld since August 31, as the result of a rock fall at Stenton House, with diversions in place ever since.

Perth and Kinross Council has been working with the landowner to have the road reopened to traffic as soon as possible.

A survey has been carried out on the rock face which has identified some areas that require attention to reduce the risk of a further fall on to the road.

A contractor will be employed within the next week to carry out the necessary work, which is expected to take around four weeks to complete.

In the interest of public safety, the road will stay closed until after the work.

A diversion route is in place via the A984 from Caputh to Meikleour, the A93 from Meikleour to Blairgowrie, the A923 from Blairgowrie to Dunkeld and the A984 from Dunkeld to Dungarthill.

A council spokesperson apologised for any inconvenience “and for the impact that the closure of this important link in the road network is having on residents and businesses in the local area”.
