Bikers tearing around a live ammunition firing range in Angus are putting lives at risk, it has been claimed.
Reports of motorcyclists using dirt bikes at Barry Buddon military base have sparked fears someone will be seriously hurt.
The site, near Carnoustie, is a magnet for dog walkers and cyclists.
When the flag is lowered on the military base to indicate there is no live firing everyone should feel safe from any risk but scramblers and off-road motorbikes have shattered that notion.
In appealing for information to help trace illegal motorbikers, the police, the military and community representatives are urging them to put an end to their reckless and frightening behaviour before anyone is badly injured.
The Ministry of Defence said: “Several trail bikers were found to be illegally using the training area.
“The registration numbers of the vehicles used to transport the bikes were recorded and police in Carnoustie were advised of the incident.
“These incursions occur frequently during non-firing timings and are an illegal annoyance.”
It is against the law to use motorcycles off-road without the express permission of the landowner.
Pamela Wardaw, 59, was out cycling on Sunday and was shocked to see motorbikes racing in the area.
She said: “There were children, pensioners, cyclists and people pushing prams, and these people were tearing around among them. It was really dangerous.”
